Location: Charlottesville, VA
Size: 69,000 SF
Completion: Summer 2019
A 69,000 SF mixed-use apartment building with a retail space, courtyard, and art gallery on the ground level. 5 stories of studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom apartments compose the makeup of a modern new building that represents the evolving architectural fabric of the historic West Main Street. The project scope included the renovation and restoration design of the Blue Moon Diner restaurant, and the neighboring existing retail space. Challenges and opportunities included the juxtaposition of the new building with the historic surrounding buildings, achieving the unit density regulations, and creating warm, open and inviting apartments with limited space.
