LEROY OWENS HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER
Virginia University, one of five HBCU’s in the Commonwealth, was seeking to establish a vision for a new wellness center on their campus in Lynchburg, VA. With a rise in enrollment, the University needed additional programming to accommodate their existing basketball and athletics program, in addition to more classrooms and conference space. Challenges included incorporating a modern approach to the design while fitting in with the historic surrounding neighborhood. Brick was utilized to maintain a connection with the surrounding buildings, while using thin metal and glass details to provide a modern vocabulary. The interior athletics programming included concessions, locker rooms, weight rooms, and multi-user restrooms.
Design scope was primarily producing images to garner public support for a future build.
